We believe that everyone has a right to access good medical care.
GIWC is committed to supporting the Cervical Cancer Unit at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) We collaborated with KBTH in 2018 to purchase a C-Arm Imaging Machine for the detection and treatment of cervical and other cancers. The cost of the machine was USD$105,000 which was 60% funded by GIWC, with Korle Bu Hospital paying the balance of 40%.
We have undertaken to pay for a service and maintenance contract for five years (USD$7,000 pa) that will ensure the machine is in good working order every dat of the year.
A recent visit by our Follow up Committee to KBTH, revealed that between 50 and 70% of patients diagnosed with Cervical cancer, do not return to the hospital for treatment once they have been told of the costs involved. Depending on the severity of the case, treatment costs between Ghc5,000 and Ghc12,000.
We are aiming to pay for up to 40 patients who would otherwise to unable to afford their life-saving treatments.
How can you help?
Because we believe that everyone has a right to receive good medical care when needed, we invite you to donate to our “Fund a patient – Save a life” project. We are seeking sponsors to fully or partially fund individual treatments.
Because we believe that hospitals should be equipped with good diagnostic and treatment tools, we ask you to consider donating towards the payment of the service and maintenance contract (USD$7,000 pa). This will ensure that the C-arm machine is fully operational every day of the year.
